Hi, I’m Ash Wylder

I help writers finish their manuscripts through a multidisciplinary approach that works with neurodivergent minds.

I foster my love of the written word by recording life experiences, telling stories on stage, and offering creative support to other writers, business owners, and neurodivergent makers of all kinds. As for my personal work, I’ve been publishing since 2010.

I didn’t go to traditional college. I don’t have many fancy letters behind my name. To be honest, I barely made it out of high school, and yet I’ve supported students in writing essays, college applications, and op-eds. Why do these minds seek my support when I don’t work inside of academia? I believe it’s because they often need to unlearn some of what those institutions have taught them about themselves and what knowledge matters. Often, they need to remember that there are other ways of knowing: intuition, gut instinct, and longing. Not everything is scientifically optimized or quantified. Sometimes, people know the right next move simply because they know it. This is one of the things I help writers reclaim: their personal ways of knowing. I help them honor themselves, their personal stories, and the craft of writing through trauma-informed and neuroscience-backed coaching processes tailored to the individual author and particular project.

Think in your head, write from your heart.

A multidisciplinary approach to memoir writing does more than teach craft techniques.

It helps writers decipher which scenes to include and what memories aren’t for public consumption. Memoir writing is brave work. It takes courageous tools, insight, and support. There are a lot of group classes out there that promise to turn groups of passionate into book writing superstars, but I’ve found that those learning environments don’t work for me or for many of my clients. They crave individualized support that gives them the right tool at the right time instead of forcing themselves through a curriculum that works for the masses. That is why I work one-on-one with my clients.

I work with the individual and that particular story, teaching techniques and offering resources to move them forward in a safe way. As any author will tell you, each story requires a different part of themselves. With my career background in massage therapy and high-performance coaching, I help individuals understand their unique brains and the ways they can work with their nervous systems in order to resource themselves and their stories in the ways that matter most. Many of my clients work with me inside of Submergence: A Memoirist’s Chamber, my one-on-one writing coaching membership.

In addition to all of the one-on-one support, there are opportunities to join within the community and attend workshops, silently cowrite, and connect with each other (only if desired).

START WITH

a Plunge introductory session:

This session is a great way to test out the Submergence waters, my coaching style, and your needs as a writer. This is not a sales call. This is a powerful coaching experience. We can discuss:

  • potential projects and where you should focus based on what else is going on in your life,

  • craft techniques and skills such as dialogue, character development, subplot, and more,

  • final edits on a section of text < 1,000 words OR developmental edits on a section of text (or completed piece) < 5,000 words,

  • dreaded writer’s block, personal writing strategy, project outlines, and work-with-your-brain techniques

Nonjudgemental
Sea-Deep Support:

Life can change quickly. That is why I offer coaching as a month-to-month offering. Within this structure, unused sessions roll over to the following month and can be used when the writer needs support most. Monthly subscriptions can be paused, and each client receives a 7-day advance notification before being charged. 6-month and year-long packages are available by request.

I encourage writers to book biweekly sessions because this cadence is enough support while encouraging the actual writing. However, weekly session subscriptions are available for individuals who want more frequent support.

All people are different, and all projects are different, so all sessions are different. Tools, techniques, and support needs shift during different depths of the journey.

Helpful
Considerations:

What does helpful support feel like to you?
We begin by reverse engineering your goals to decide where we focus. We write a manifesto and design a strategy that fits your life and goals and schedule our future sessions in ways that support your writing development, learning style, and creative process. This doesn’t necessarily mean outlining your project––some writers quit once they’ve figured that out. It means we discover the processes that will support you the most and use them.

Do you like one-on-one or group work?
If you prefer tailored, one-on-one support, this is a great option. While I offer a group workshop each quarter, there are many writing & critique groups widely available, and that is not the main avenue of support inside of Submergence. I like supporting writers individually, giving specific feedback, and living in the creative process with them, instead of teaching to a group.

If you would like to work with me but still have questions, I invite you to book a free, no-pressure consultation call.

I am not mysterious and unavailable. I’m here.

Let’s chat.

Perhaps 15 minutes is all you need
to entice your muse out of your neighbor’s hot tub
and back to your writing desk.
