Winter Writing Retreat

February 16th - 17th, 2024
Max 5 Writers
$450

Spend two days in suspended creative bliss.

You will be daring.

You will be untethered.

You will be safely held in a small container of dedicated and heart-forward writers.

You will make progress.

Perhaps you’ll finish your rough draft, edit a huge chunk of your manuscript, or polish the major conflict scene.

Maybe you’ll ask questions about how to tell a difficult story in your memoir or learn something about the craft that unblocks your narrative.

Someone else’s question might show you a new place to look for answers, and Ash’s advice will help you write your story well.

If you:

  • need a new spark of inspiration in your writing

  • write poetry, fiction, and/or memoir

  • are at the beginning, middle, or end of your project

  • are a neurodivergent or highly sensitive person

then the Winter Writing Retreat is designed with you in mind.

This new virtual offering is designed to remove financial barriers for individuals who want support in their writing. (It’s a fraction of the cost of an in-person writing retreat or workshop.) In addition to the workshops, creative warm-ups, silent co-writing time, and group discussions, each participant also receives two 45-minute writing coaching sessions with Ash. These sessions can be used to work through a particular scene, outline a chapter, workshop writing, or work through any other writing-related question.

The Winter Writing Retreat is capped at five people because I believe that in order to really facilitate deep writing and connection, smaller groups thrive. I prefer spending more time with fewer people than short bursts of time with more people than I can connect with. What that means for you is that you receive my undivided and energized attention throughout the day and that there is more time for breaks, questions, laughter, and connection with the other participants (if you desire).

Fall in love with your muse during some of the darkest and coldest winter nights.

MEET ASH WYLDER

Ash Wylder is a published author who integrates the cross sections of a deep passion for neuroscience, skill development, and mind-body connection into all of her coursework and uses her history working with team leaders and CEOs to help neurodivergent and highly sensitive writers build creative writing processes that work. She is a life-long lover of language with a run-amok imagination and believes that the art of writing something reader-ready should be a curious and joyful experience. No matter where your blocks come up, she can teach you how to demystify and move beyond them in trauma-sensitive and neuroscience-backed ways.

 FAQs

  • There is no discount for partial attendance, but recordings of each creative warm-up, group meditation, writing exercise, and workshop will be sent to each participant on February 19th. For your one-on-one sessions, I’ll do my best to schedule both of yours during the day that you’ll be attending, but if that doesn’t work, we will schedule your second session within two weeks of the Winter Writing Retreat.

  • I get this question a lot.

Depending on the project, I work with all kinds of writers. I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to writing as a way to resource oneself and develop a sustainable ecosystem of skills. Mostly, I work with memoirists, but I’ve been known to work on a fiction novel, email newsletter project, or poetry chapbook from time to time.

For the scope of this Winter Writing Retreat, we will be focusing on memoir and memoir related techniques, but many of these techniques can be applied across disciplines.

  • Great question. The short answer is no, but there is so much more to understand about the world of editing.

There are “line” or “copy” editors (think grammar, punctuation, sentence order, repetition, style, etc.) and developmental editors that help you close the plot threads and complete the story (think plot, story structure, arc, character, etc.).

I do a lot of “developmental editing” with my clients, but we also do so much more than that. As for the line edits, I leave most of that to my perfectionist colleagues. (Perfectionism isn’t always a bad thing. Trust me.)

  • If you’re a writer with neurodivergence, chronic illness, or high sensitivity, you’ll find my coaching process aligned with what you need regarding support, encouragement, and teaching. I use a trauma-informed and neuroscience-backed coaching process to help my writers move through writer’s block, creative dry spells, and structural problems.

Suppose you’re a writer who wants to break the rules of what your book could look like (perhaps you have a poetry textile project or want to infuse your traditional memoir structure with flash fiction pieces) or are a blogger who needs a different kind of accountability or a fresh perspective. In that case, I can help you.

I have a lot of experience working with a wide variety of writers across many disciplines. I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to writing, especially for neurodivergent folks.

  • The Ultimate Manuscript costs $450. Payment plans are available. If the total amount is too much to pay at once, please let me know and I’ll set you up on a 2-payment plan: $200 to hold your spot with the remaining $250 to be paid by the Monday before the retreat (February 12th).

  • Each participant that pays in full before February 3rd will receive a precious snail-mail delivery of my favorite journal, an adorable “Do not disturb. I’m writing.” door hanger, and a couple of other sweet surprises.

    All participants receive:

    • The Prep Packet

    • Two 45-minute individual sessions with Ash (one for each day of the retreat)

    • Recordings of each Workshop, Creative Warm-Up, Guided Imagery Exercise, and Group Discussion during our two days together

    • 7 days of Integration email support

    • The Integration & Continuing On Packet

As a special bonus, participants receive 25% off of one (1) hour-long writing session with Ash to be used within 45 days of the retreat.

  • Yes!

$400 to hold your spot and the remaining $400 is due the Monday before the Winter Writing Retreat (February 12th)

  • Because of the service-nature of this service, I do not offer refunds. If you would like to connect with me for a free 15-minute consultation to make sure you’d be a good fit for the retreat, you can do that here.

If you purchase but are unable to attend, you must request your reimbursement by February 9th, 2024.

This policy protects the container of the retreat and ensures that the people who sign up are invested in the program. This policy also protects my cashflow as a small, service-based business. If you have any questions or concerns about this policy, I am happy to talk.

  • It all happens in the Storybreath School Balroom which has been reserved for the Winter Writing Retreat.

    Zoom!

If it is financially available to you, I recommend getting an Airbnb somewhere that will boost your writing mood.

Looking for a lower-cost option? Could you house-swap with a friend for a couple of days? Dogsit someone’s pup for them? Redecorate your writing space or choose to wear something that helps you embody the energy of the Winter Writing Retreat in your own home.

  • If you’ve worked with me before, are familiar with my teaching style, and are okay with a cross-disciplinary approach to copywriting that is as imaginative as it is informational and persuasive, then yes. This can be for you. The one-on-one sessions are tailored specifically to you and your needs, so we can go wherever you want during that time together.

Do you have a different question? I’m not unavailable and mysterious. You can book a chat and get your questions answered here.
